IMO Kester is the BEST solder to use, just don't use any brand that is lead free. As to diameter, that seems fine for pedal work. Get another tube one or two sizes up for pots and jacks and such.

+1. But if you're going to be doing a lot of soldering (that seems to happen with this hobby! :)), buy it in larger quantities than that, and you'll get a MUCH better price. I buy it by the 1lb. roll and the cost per unit weight is 1/5 of those little 0.5 oz. tubes.

Great suggestion! Here's what I do, for what it's worth: I use Kester orgnic for all board components and clean with warm water and a toothbrush. Then I switch to Kester No-Clean for the off-board stuff and wiring. Note that for the water clean, be careful of components that may be damaged by the water and be sure to let the board dry thoroughly before powering up.
