Got an old distortion plus, it has a 9v jack with pos and neg only. Can someone help me wire this thing? Thanks in ADVANCE :) Switch has 6 lugs.

Never mind. :) Just found a stomp switch, 9v jack, and LED. I got this.

I almost got this. Anybody know what the wires are in the Distortion + ? Is this correct?

Red - 9v
Black - Ground
Yellow - Input
Orange -
Violet -

Brown from middl lug of Vol Pot - Output

I have LED, full signal in bypass, dead in effect. The original Yellow wire from the board is now red.

Thanks in advance :)

I don't know where the wires go, but you can figure it out from the schematic. I would check voltages on the op amp. Should have supply on pin 7, ground on pin 4, and half voltage on 2, 3, & 6.

Signal trace it to make sure you have signal at pin 3 and distortion at pin 6.

looks like orange is your gain, violet is the volume.

Found this too:
Image

0 = Out (to volume lug 3)
V = 9v
G = Ground
I = Input (footswitch lug 5)
D = distortion lug 3

very low on 2 and 6. 3 is half power and 7 is full.

Sounds like the op amp might be bad. I'd signal test it to confirm that it isn't passing signal. It still could be something else.

No signal tester :(

All you need is a 1/4" jack, a cap, and an alligator clip.

Other than that, confirm your wiring and maybe measure resistors. Or just replace the op amp and hope for the best.

In the absence of a signal tester, I'd check the output jack wiring (always hard to tell what is what on those enclosed stereo jacks), check all grounds, including the grounds on the two pots, verify that the pots are good and not shorted. Check the voltage on pins 2 & 6 while turning the distortion knob. Does the voltage vary? Does the voltage ever get close to 4.5 when you turn the pot? What's the resistance of C3? Is it low (<1 meg), indicating that cap is bad and is leaking voltage to ground through R2 & R3? Is C4 bad and leaking voltage to the output?

Also, worth confirming that you replaced it with a single op amp and not a dual op amp.

Good call, Morgan. I was using a 4558. Happen to have a TL071 laying around and bam. Working. The orig uses a 741. Let's see how it sounds now, and I'll procure a 741. Thanks a bunch for the help!

Holy Crap! Sounds awesome with the TL071! Don't know if it's the circuit or the chip, but it's real "woody" aside from the usual characteristics. Might be the ceramic disc caps.

Thanks for the help Morgan. This went from dead to awesome.

Replaced;

Input Jack
9v Jack
Stomp Switch
LED and Bezel
741 opamp was burned out, replaced with TLO71
Pots (both shafts were crushed into the body of the pots from being stepped on)

Added;

Knobs (NOS Dakaware, the really good stuff)
Feet
