I have heard some great things about the old Lab Series amps and wanted to try my luck with the L5 from Aion Electronics.

I can't wait to fire it up, that is if it works [WINKING FACE]

Lab Series amps? Wow! that brings back memories of Ronnie Montrose way back when in the band Gamma. I remember when my buddy Gary (my good friend Frank’s counterpart in the band “Illusion”) bought an L5. Gary’s tone was always thin sounding when compared to Frank’s. At the time Frank had a 50W Marshall and Gary had a 100 watt. Gary was so excited when he made the purchase. After one practice session using his new L5 we all concluded it was quite possibly the worst amp we had ever heard. Gary ended up selling it a month later.

A funny story about Gary and his tone. About 2 or 3 years ago my buddy Larry and I went to a club to see one of Gary’s many side bands. So the band hits the stage and after a song or three I say to Larry, “Gary’s tone is sounding really good tonight. I wonder what he’s done to change it.” Now comes the funny part. After the set Gary comes over to our table in a bit of a panic. He says to us that something is wrong with his guitar and that it sounds like shit. Larry and I looked at each other doing all we could not to laugh out loud. I never did hear what the problem was with his guitar

Yeah apparently Moog designed the original Lab Series for Gibson. Is supposedly can produce a nice Fender-esque tone. It seems BB King used the originals for some time.

The second generation of the amps were not using Moog circuitry and didn't have the same umph.

I hit a bump in the road, I need a C50k pot, but was sent a C500k by accident, will have to wait until the right pot comes in.

I was really looking forward to getting this finished up this weekend too!
