I'm in the process of building a simple 4 channel mixer to interface with my laptop and record with. I would like the option to use a usb connection for the output. Do I connect the D+ and D- to the boards output along with the ground or how is this connected properly? I've never messed with usb before but the pinout seems simple enough (5v+, Ground, D+ "data +", D- "data -")

This is the mixer layout I am using.

You would need to use a USB audio device. The mixer would not interface directly with the USB jack of the computer. D+ and D- are serial data (ones and zeros) for communicating with the operating system or other software.

Right on. In the back of my mind I had a feeling something like that was the case. I will probably just use a converter box then from mixer to computer. Would end up being easier that way probably.

A friend gave me one of those high speed, cool guy Peltor noise cancelling headsets that I thought would be pretty cool to find a way to use with my cell phone. For a time I was toying with the idea of building this contraption with blue tooth capabilities so I could keep the adapter box more sealed up and water resistant...

...but after a few weeks of research I said "eff this!" and if that project ever comes together, I'm just going to use physical connectors for everything.
