Pedal works (Fuzz), LED comes on sometimes, and when it doesn't, I can whack it to get it to come on. What do you think could be the reason?

Also, don't know how to add a photo, so here is a link. Need to learn this too...

Poor soldering is the most likely suspect. Your photo is too blurry to be of much help.

I agree that your soldering is probably the issue. If you look at the joint on the resistor just below the LED, it's a large sphere. It should be a nice tight cone. If you read through Stephen's Tips For A Successful Build, you will see good visual examples of what you're going for. You can clean up bad joints like that fairly easily by reflowing the solder. You need to make sure your iron tip is hot and clean. Apply it to the joint and allow the solder to melt, then remove it.

There are three components in the LED circuit that need to have their solder joints re-flowed: the LED, the 4.7K current limiting resistor next to it, and the footswitch, specifically lug 1. If that still doesn't do the trick, there is a smaller possibility that (1) the LED itself is defective, or (2) the internal connection between lugs 1 and 2 inside the footswitch. The latter is easy enough to test for with a multimeter set to the continuity mode while the footswitch is engaged and the LED isn't lighting. If no continuity, then it's a wonky footswitch and should be replaced.
