I am interested in trying to mod a lil breaker to get more volume from it. It seems like the volume all the way up is about unity gain and I'd like a little boost available. Is there a tried and true mod floating around out there? An easy parts swap? My inexpert searching hasn't really turned up anything.

How about running the output of the Li'l Breaker directly into a 27V Boost with both effects housed side by side in a larger enclosure? You could just jumper the volume pot connections so that the Breaker was permanently "dimed" and run it into the 27V, using that as the combination boost/volume control. It could even be wired up so that the combo could be run off a single footswitch.

Normally, I'd say just solder up a small clean boost circuit on a piece of vero-board and wire that onto the end of the Li'l Breaker circuit, but there's just no room for it in that little enclosure, which is packed tight already.

This is a much-discussed aspect of the Bluesbreaker circuit. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that it will be normal to have to run the level knob way past noon if I want unity volume. JHS "solved" this problem in the Morning Glory by putting a boost circuit after the BB circuit, but as duhvoodooman says, that won't fit in your enclosure.

Better idea: Since the 27V Boost is out of stock, you could use the MOSFET Boost module from the Crown Jewel family instead. It's tiny (see photo below, but no, it still won't fit into the Li'l Breaker enclosure) and inexpensive ($10), and you could easily fit the combo into a 125B or 1590B enclosure. And we can walk you through the connections that need to be made. You wouldn't install the module pins, but just wire directly to four of the eight pin eyelets: +9V, ground, input (I) and output (O).

Unity gain might not be at noon, but you certainly shouldn't need to run the volume at full turn clockwise to get unity gain. I'd be more inclined to think there's a resistor or two out of place.

Very good point. I've answered questions about "low" BBOD/Lil Breaker volume enough times (including my own builds) that I didn't read the original problem carefully enough.

OP, please post a clear photo of your circuit board so we can check your component placement.

Large, well-lit & well-focused, please. We need to be able to read the color band coding on the resistors for this to be a useful troubleshooting exercise.
