Re: egg cartons- parts. These have been replaced by Plano boxes, a growing number of Plano boxes. Luckily they are cheap at Homey-D.

Here's the state of the egg boxes to date, although I just bought two more and have parts on the way... more when the BYOC store is working again...

But here's a tool I use a lot for cables and for pots...

Neutrik plugs require a different jig that I'm working on later to hold the cable and plug in line and to snug them down. They are a pain but people like them.

All of those are useful tools, but I'd miss the wire strippers and side cutters more than anything. After having a set of nice wire strippers, it is painful going back to the old style hand strippers.

I haven't used my wire wrap tool in years, though. I used it a ton on an old flight sim I built, but these days it doesn't see much action.

it's the reverse tweezers I use most of all, what I do is use a heatsink clip (mentioned earlier) and then hold the heatsink clip flush with the board to make the component nice and straight + safe from heat

Hi all,
I'm very new here. But, I've left a trail of death and destruction enough to probably get a nod from other DIYers. After reading all six pages the only thing I thought may be of use to add is one of those round rubber jar openers in your kitchen junk drawer. If you have to pull a non-set screw knob from a spline pot shaft off they don't damage the surface and give you tremendous purchase for cheap. :)

There's a great deal at Harbor Freight right now for helping hands! Only $2.99!

I had a 20% Off/Free Flashlight coupon, so it made my purchase after tax = $2.58 with a bonus LED flashlight!

Here's a printable coupon for you to use: http://www.dealsoff.com/images/harborfreight0228.jpg

I really liked seeing the glue gun on here... I swear by my glue gun, almost as useful as my soldering iron...

Okay maybe not, but it's been used to keep a few parts in place if I forget a washer, or the battery rattles.

Small wire cutters are nice, but FLUSH cut snippers are nicer. Harbor Freight - less than $5. I usually get 2 sets, just to have 'em around. Works great for toe nails too (ewwwww).

Agreed. Bought a set of these recently and they work great for trimming wires and component leads as short as possible.

I wouldn't know....

Can confirm

And those little Harbor Freight red-handled side cutters are sharp as hell and, as long as you don't use them for anything other than component leads and copper wire less than 16AWG, they'll last forever. Best $3 you can spend at HF tools.

the HAKKO CHP170 Micro Cutter, is like 5 bucks on eBay, it is as good as flush cutters costing much more,
once you use good flush cutters, you will not like using anything else....

Yup, got a pair of these flush cutters and they do an excellent job, really amazing for only $5!

I sometimes sound like a hakko salesman, lol I am not, they just make good stuff at good prices
That has served me well for many years.
These two guys by peak , I use a bunch on every build I do, the lcr45 checks caps, and resistors, no need to look up color codes, or cap codes...ect very handy, I use this tool more than my dmm! the dca pro is another very useful tool, checking gain levels of transistors, idss of jfets, or a diodes forward voltage. Plugs into a pc and will do curve tracing. Pretty slick lil box.
They pretty much stay on the bench all the time.
