Here's a little secret. If you put 512-(part #) for just about any diode or transistor at mouser, you will get the correct part from Fairchild

512-1N4001
512-1N914
512-1N4002
512-1N4148
512-2N3906
512-BS170
512-J201
512-MFP102
512-2N2222

I just tried "512-FLUX_CAPACITOR". No joy :(

Thats because it is actually an ACME product. They have been unavailable since the late 80's and finding any NOS is extreamly rare. ;)

Of the transistors listed above, do I just need to look for them to say "NPN" transistor under the specifications on Mouser's page??

I'd like to find ones to use on the Ultimate Fuzz clone just for fun...

Ok, I've got a question here...Why does Mouser sell all those transistors so cheap, but these over on PPP are $5/each? http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merch ... ode=GTRANS

Are the PPP's the only germaniums?

The transistors from mouser listed above are all current production silicons. The three at PPP are NOS germaniums. Of the three sold at PPP, the only one mouser sells is the NTE cross reference work-alike for the OC44, which lists at $10.76 each. The packaging looks right, but NTE's data sheets are hard for this transistor noob to be able to tell if it's indeed the right part... If it is indeed a 'work-alike', then it's a bit of a pricy alternative as it's more than twice the cost of the OC44 from PPP.

Smallbear sells germanium transistors, and there are some out there on ebay. I've bought quite a few from people overseas.

Just a heads up. Mammoth Electronics http://www.mammothelectronics.com has a ton of transistors and they just added a bunch of germ. transistors that are supposedly manufactured to mullard spec. by a US transistor company. http://www.mammothelectronics.com/category-s/107.htm. I am working on a few BYOC builds this month and wanted to play around with the rangemaster circuit. I will be ordering from mammoth soon. Let me know if anyone else has ordered these yet. I would love some reviews.

2N5089 (quieter 5088)
2N3903 (low gain NPN like 2N2222A)
2N4401 (as above)

I also vote for the 2N2222A. Its metal package alternative also lends itself to a more rugged albeit old school germanium look.
