Hey Gang,
Here's a little Son of Clay Jones Overdrive I've been using for several months and finally got put into a proper enclosure. I have to admit that for some reason I had a bias against the Tube Screamer circuit, I thought I wouldn't like it so I never tried building one. But this little feller changed my mind and I can see why it gets copied so often, it just sounds really good. It uses the requisite OPA2134 and I added a switch for LED and diode clipping. I accidentally used an on/off/on switch so it also got a super bonus diode-lift mod, which I guess because of the way I wired it bypasses the gain pot as well so it's wide open in the middle position.

I had an idea a while back that I wanted to do a Minecraft themed pedal and this one was the next up on the bench. I guess it sort of makes sense that it's the block of dirt. And lastly, in my usual style, before doing the perf version shown here I first tried to build a vero version of this, which is now snoozing away in the Box of Fail. some things never change I guess. And last lastly, the insides are a total Spaghetti Western. It works fine as-is, and I've burned up too many switches trying to resolder lately so I just left it.

Looks great! Which clipping arrangement do you prefer? I'm generally happy with the LEDs in mine, but I didn't add any clipping options to this particular circuit.

Looks great G! Nothing like 'accidentally' getting a sound option FTW !!

Oh man, my oldest would love that! He's all about Minecraft these days! Maybe I can get him excited to decorate a pedal of mine like that in some way. Though he's not much better at graphics than I am

Looks really great!
That's nifty bypass wiring you got going on there too. 8)

thanks guys! The vero layout used that switch wiring, which I think is sort of D*A*M-style, so I just kept it. It seems to be pretty quiet switching on and off so I might do some more like that.

Eric, I'm ashamed to admit I can't tell much if any difference between the two clipping options. Maybe I wired it wrong 8) one seems to have a little more low end but that could be placebo effect. The diode lift definitely works though

Interesting, I would think the silicon diodes would be slightly quieter and a bit more compressed. I bet it's the LED mode that has the 'more low end' you describe. Next time you have it open, can you see the LEDs lighting up when you pick? Anyway, don't cancel Christmas plans over it on my account

Very Well done! I love the look of your graphic, is this a waterslide decal?

Brando, yes it"s just a waterslide using white opaque paper.

Eric, I'll look into it tomorrow, you've got me curious now. :D

Guy, I can give you a direct link tomorrow, or check turretboard.org if you want to look this evening.

Guy, here is the vero layout, you will probably need an account at FSB to view it. Scroll down a bit on the first page.

dang, triple post in my own thread  Here's a diode report for Eric: I turned up the gain a lot more and could actually hear a difference in the diode switching that seemed more pronounced than just a placebo effect 8) It's pretty much as you described, the LEDs seemed to have more top and low and the 1N914s more compressed. I prefer the LED sound on this probably. Thanks for encouraging me to look into it a little bit, there's more there than I thought!
