May 30th my oldest relative turned 100 so I took the train down to my birthtown Växjö in Småland and found these three.



Electric Nurse Pale Ale was 10 times better than the easter porter, and a great summer APA!
Oppigårds Thurbo stout at 8.7% was choko imp stout heaven.
And then I found the lost ark of a beer.

Kallebryggeriet BLOT. Superlocal, don't even have a barcode.
Great full complex stout at 7%, will prolly never have it again but I hope I can find it again.

THE FEZ IS BACK!!!! Nice beer selection!

BTW love 'APA' because here we just call them pale ales. HAHA.

Back in Stockholm I finally opened this, and it was great, thanks for the tip fellow brewskies.



Two more superlocal beers, this time from Sundbyberg.


Sundbyberg is called Sumpan, hence the name Sumpan Ale, and then we have a mix between an ale and a lager, a half lager/halvlager
Brewed by two guys that started out in their kitchen, the name is Sunbybergs kökbryggeri. Kitchenbrewery in english.
Early this year they bought an old church that you can see in their logo, and turned it into a brew house with a local pub next to the brewery!



Mountain Livin' Pale Ale, first time I tried anything from crazy mountain brewing.
A hoppy ale, nothing bad about it.

Last beer in this field report is Nils Oskars Belgo Pale Ale.



Unholy indian cow from hell, this was the best so far this year!
3 different american hops mixed with belgian saison yeast, it's a trappist and a pale ale together and I freakin love it!!
Complex but very very smooth at the same time.

Tonedeaf John, here we must label em american or indian or else the oldies will die from hop indused heart failure when they drink a Stone double bastard instead of an old english fart IPA

DAMN - too many characters to turn that into a sig!!!

John, I read your post earlier and thought "hmmm, now I want to try this Devil Dancer... I wonder if I'll be able to find it". Then, just a few minutes ago, I went down to the basement to see what I have, and there was a bottle of Devil Dancer! I forgot that I bought a bottle last week!! I think I've been killing too many brain cells lately, haha.

In honor of Fez's triumphant return, I just snapped this pic:



It does that cool Guinness cascading thing & has a dense, creamy head like a Guinness. The flavor leaves me flat, though. I'm going to have to go back and try a regular non-nitro Old Chub and see if I like that better.

Had a stop at a new store to see if they had a better deal on the Devil Dancer, or carried that Founder's double. Nope on both, but they did have this limited release beauty:


Supposedly only 64 IBU, but to me it's got a great bitterness/malt balance. I rather enjoy it especially for an $11 6 pack.

That Devil Dancer is a mighty scarce beast around here. As soon as it hits the shelves, no matter the price, it's gone. I have to get it the day it comes out or miss out...and let's just say I didn't miss out

Little something different. A pretty heavy duty single IPA. Nice hops but well balanced. Dry full bodied. And, 24oz bottle limited release - for $6. I love Sierra Nevada!

^I haven't seen Weez yet! I've had Mo (awesome) and Peeper (not really my style) and I have a couple others at home I haven't tried yet. I'll keep my eye out for that one.

I've had the Mo, Peeper, Mean Old Tom, King Titus, and now the Weez. The Weez has been my favorite so far, but they're all pretty damn good.

I've got a Mean Old Tom waiting for me in the beer cellar (aka a cardboard box in the basement). I doubt it will age long though haha.

Edit - went downstairs, read the bottle and it said to drink it fresh, so it didn't last the night

I can see why - bottle conditioned and its already got that smooth mellow aged quality to it. Smoother than Steely Dan. The vanilla flavor is there but subtle enough to not overpower the stout. Man this is good.

I consoled myself with a 2 1/2 year old Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout. Smooth milk stout taste with a warming whiskey finish. Damn good and I wish I would have aged more.

Aw yeah, nice one Rocko! I've never aged the Brooklyn chocolate, maybe I'll try that with a 4 pack this year.

Sadly I've never managed to age them either, they all taste so damn good...

My plan was to drink two, save two. I ended up drinking three and saving only one. Maybe next time, haha!

My palette must be on vacation tonight, because this triple IPA is not bitter at all. Still pretty good, but I'm a bit disappointed in this, especially considering what I paid for it. Anyways, happy IPA day!

Back from 2 weeks vacation in Mellbystrand located on the west coast of Sweden.


Nice hoppy darkish ale!


An ordinary good Lager


Falskmyntaren, a local golden ale that was great


Mariestad Export, a classic lager


Finally caved in to peer pressure and tried this. Did not like it.


Wisby klosteröl, just fantastic!


Rum finish, nice but a bit too sweet for my liking.


Sleepy bulldog, this summers most frequent pale ale


Thurbo double ipa with 4 kinds of malted barley and 6 different hops, almost too much haha!


Indian tribute, ultrabitter but great with thai-food


Båstad black, superlocal dark lager with a full nice taste.


Mikkeller amercian dream, a sad excuse for an ale. Almost poured it in the sink.


A great great rauchbier with smokemalt from Mackmyra whisky.


A wierd belgian porter that tasted sour in a bad way.


Another superlocal dryhopped lager that was perfect for this warm summer!


Japanese porter that was awesome, most exotic beer this year


Local dark ale that was ok.

2 years ago I was in Dublin at the Porterhouse and drank this on tap.
Yesterday I drank 2 bottles at home. Full and very smooth.
