New vibrato kit on the way, with a revised layout. Yummy! Photos via Facebook.

Sweet! I was just about to get around to building the old one. I bought a PCB and a few of the weird parts from the mothership and just haven't touched it. This inspires me to get moving—if for no other reason than that I can put those same knobs on it!

Wow, with 5 IC's (including a BBD set) and 14 transistors, will that really run off a 9V battery?? (For more than 10 minutes, I mean. ;) )

Current draw is 35mA. Transistors and op amps don't draw that much current.

It's those digital circuits that can be real current hogs.

The old one is *still* on my pedal board :) I modded it way back when to do chorus on a switch, too. Beautiful analog chorus and vibrato...makes me want to go play guitar.

PS - glad to see 1/4 watt resistors :P

Can you tell me how to do this mod? I searched the forum but didn't find it. I'm getting ready to build mine at last and would love to have this option in the final build.

And wait, does the old one use 1/8w resistors?

It's simple as I recall: a switch adds clean signal to the vibrato signal which creates the chorus effect. What goes exactly where I do not remember, and I'm away from home at the moment. The old one used 1/4 watt resistors too, some of the newer pedals use 1/8 watters and are a little difficult to handle for me :/

It is very simple to modify it to a chorus. You just connect the output of the first half of the op amp (pin 1) to the inverting input of the second half (pin 5) with a 47k resistor (exactly like the dry signal is done in the CE-2). You'd use a SPST toggle switch to make or break the connection.

Coming back to this… which IC are you talking about here? And could it be put on a B50k pot to make it blendable? (Although I'm already wondering where I'm going to put the toggle switch, so maybe I should skip that idea.)

New BYOC Analog Vibrato kit (Boss VB-2 clone) now on sale! As low as $100 with an unpainted enclosure; snazzy blue painted enclosure w/ white graphics adds another $10.

On the older version, it would be the 4558 chip, with a 47k between pin 7 and 2. Pin 7 would be the output of the first op amp buffer and pin 2 would be the input of the second op amp buffer.

If you look at the schematics, the input and output buffers of the VB-2 and CE-2 are identical. The BYOC Mega Chorus is a modified CE-2. So if you wanted to do a dry blend, you should be able to extrapolate that from the Mega Chorus schematic.

Another tidbit: If you look at the set up of the clock drivers (3101 on the CE-2 and 3102 on the VB-2), they are pretty similar. But the VB-2 has a delay time trimpot. That's where the delay time control for the Mega Chorus comes from.

So let's confirm this: on the new Vibro kit for the chorus mod

it's the 4558 op amp

and which pins exactly get connected for the chorus mod?

connect pin 7 to pin 2 via a 47k resistor.

Since the new vibe kit shipped, BYOC has released a bunch of stuff. I'm guessing Nick was alluding to something from the Pony family: the Silver Pony II, Silver Pony V2, or the L'il Pony.
