Well, I don't have very many rules in life, but one of them is this: when I'm stuck in a room by myself for ten days due to a once-in-a-century pandemic, I buy myself a new guitar*.
I had a fever, and the only prescription was this weird Gretsch solidbody with a P90 and a Broad'Tron humbucker. This from their Streamliner series, which is their third tier, below the Proline MIJ guitars and the Electromatic MIK guitars. For a third tier guitar, I am shocked at how good this thing plays and sounds. It was $329 out the door, brand new (granted, I got a solid deal on it using
this tip). I have to say it beats the pants off any similarly priced Squier or Epiphone.
Tuning stability is great; I might not even replace the nut or bridge on this guitar. I am going to replace the pots and add a treble bleed, but other than that, it's ready to rock out of the box. The pickups are such a fun and unusual combination, and it's a really lovely looking instrument, too. I'm pretty psyched about it. Gretsch is just knocking it out of the park!
