Hi there

I just completed the build of the main crown jewel board and then multiple boost modules.
I found the pedal had a high pitched noise that was constant whether the pedal was on or off. Based on reading other posts, I took the charge pump out and the high pitched noise went away. I will request a new charge pump. Should I ask for a 1054 or the 7660?

With the boost modules, I am having other issues. I have jumpered the I and O sockets and have no issues. It works as a volume control without added noise. My soft clipper and hard clipper modules are working fine - there is no added noise. So I believe my main board build is fine. The boost modules I am having issues with are the LPB module, Octave Up Module, Fuzz Module and treble booster module.
For the lpb, octave and fuzz modules, when I engage the boost switch there is a very loud hum, that gets louder/softer with the boost level knob. It is not affected by the pre/post switch. All three of these modules have 3904 transistors. Could they be the problem?

With the treble booster module, when I engage the boost switch, there is a massive drop in output. The output signal is almost non existent. Turning the trimpot does not help. Any ideas?

Finally, with the fuzz module it says to bias the trimpot to 4.5v or bias by ear. What am I listening for? I don’t have a multimeter.

I'll let the more knowledgeable moderators chime in about your other stuff, but I can answer this: you're listening for a sound you like. That's all. 4.5v is a standard fuzz bias, but there's no electronic reason why it should be set there. Set everything else (amp, guitar volume, etc.) the way you actually use it and mess with the trimpot on the fuzz module until you like the sound. You're done.

You'll want a 7660. Although....if you're using a 1Spot or a similar power supply, that may be your problem.

I can't tell from the pic, but you may just have your transistor in backwards in the germanium boost. A backwards transistor will still pass signal, but it will drop the volume.

Thanks Keith. I’ll get a 7660. The high pitched noise was present with an mxr mini iso brick as well as a standard 9v power supply (pictured) even without any daisy chaining and no other pedals on the signal chain. So the charge pump should deal with that noise.

Interestingly changing back to the mxr mini iso brick made the loud hum go away for the lpb and octave up modules. The hum became quieter for the fuzz module - so yes I would say it was a power supply issue for those modules.

That leaves the treble booster module. I’m still getting very low output after switching back to the mxr iso brick. I have pictured the orientation of the transistor. It’s a bit dark but hopefully you can make it out. I’m pretty sure the orientation is right.

I completely overlooked the fact that the germanium boost module uses the negative voltage supply from the charge pump. So it's not going to work without the charge pump. So I guess stick a pin in that till you get the new charge pump.

While the Zoom power supply is a negative tip 9V adapter with adequate current, I wouldn't trust it to power discrete pedals.
